Beyond the veil of the mortal world, hidden within a crumbling valley where even the bravest knights dare not tread, lies the Cemetery of the Forgotten Oath. A forsaken graveyard where the dead do not slumber, and whispers of a cursed past drift upon the wind like dying embers.
This versatile fantasy battle map is perfect for dark encounters, necromantic rituals, or sinister explorations in your Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, or other TTRPG campaigns.
Whether your adventurers are confronting restless spirits, uncovering ancient secrets, or surviving a haunted night, Cemetery of the Forgotten immerses your players in a chilling and unforgettable experience.
A Land Forsaken by Time
The cemetery is old—older than any written record. The gravestones, once etched with names of heroes and lost souls, have long since eroded, leaving only nameless markers and shattered monuments. Among them, two solitary graves stand apart, untouched by time. A male and female burial site, side by side, with no inscriptions. At night, ethereal wisps drift above them, their ghostly glow illuminating symbols unseen by mortal eyes. Who lies beneath? Lovers lost to war? Rivals bound by fate? Or something far more sinister?
Rumors speak of a hidden treasure buried within these cursed grounds, placed there centuries ago by a thief who sought to escape his fate. He was caught before he could reclaim it, and now the treasure remains, lost beneath layers of stone and sorrow. But treasure is never unguarded—something stirs beneath the soil, waiting…
The Demon’s Watchful Gaze
At the heart of the cemetery stands a colossal stone demon, its twisted form looming over the graves. Beneath its feet, a ring of crimson fire burns eternally, casting long shadows against the worn stone. Surrounding the central demon are smaller identical statues, their hollow eyes filled with an unnatural hunger. They watch, waiting, their presence suffocating in its eerie stillness.
At the foot of the demon, a ruined tomb or ancient altar lies cracked and broken, its purpose long forgotten. Some say the demon’s statues are more than mere carvings—that they once were men, warriors who sought to claim the power that lies buried here. And they failed.
The Catacombs – A Labyrinth of the Dead
Surrounding the cemetery, the catacombs stretch in a circular maze-like pattern, leading up to the main chamber deep within the graveyard grounds. These corridors twist and wind, creating an unnerving path that grows tighter and more disorienting as one ventures deeper. It was not built by human hands, nor by any architect of this world. The deeper one travels, the more the walls seem to close in—twisting stone, creeping shadows, echoes that don’t belong.
The dead are not the only things that lurk here. Figures move in the darkness—their silhouettes shifting between the torchlight. A secret cult? An ancient guardian? Or the souls of those forever trapped beneath the cemetery, cursed to wander until their oath is fulfilled?
